Services for George W. Johnson, 84, of Abernathy, were held at 2:00 pm Friday, January 10, 2003, in the Northside Baptist Church, Abernathy, TX, with Rev. Joel Perez, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX. Mr. Johnson died Monday, January 6, 2003, in Hale Center, TX. He was born on September 10, 1918 in Dundee, TX. He married Lillie Marie Ensey on May 5, 1935 in Vernon, TX. She preceded him in death March 5, 1993. He moved to Hale County area in 1962 from Arkansas and moved into Abernathy in 1985. He was a farmer and a Baptist. Survivors; 2 daughters, Marie Whorton of West Helena, Ark. and Shirley Garcia of Cotton Center, TX. 3 sons, Bobby Johnson of Freemont, Ind., Leslie Johnson of Pine Bluff, Ark. and David Johnson of Arlington, TX. 2 brothers, Dan Johnson of Abernathy, TX and Sonny Davis of Devals Bluff, Ark. 1 half-brother, LeRoy Davis of Cherokee Village, Ark. 1 sister, Verbenia Foster of Old Helena, Ark. 20 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
