Ann Knight, a devoted educator and beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas. Georg Ann Knight was born on September 10, 1936, in Dallas, Texas, to Corbett and Lena (Fowler) Legg, Ann’s lifelong commitment to teaching and nurturing young minds marked her as a truly inspiring figure.
Ann graduated from North Dallas High School before furthering her education at North Texas State Teachers College, now known as the University of North Texas. Ann’s career as a passionate teacher spanned many years, during which she was employed by both the Mesquite and Dallas Independent School Districts. She was especially fond of teaching first grade in its early days—before kindergarten became common—finding joy in helping students embark on their educational journeys “the right way.” Known for her unwavering determination and strong will, Ann prided herself on transforming struggling students into confident learners who met and exceeded academic standards. Her deep belief that every child could learn, no matter the challenges, was a guiding principle throughout her distinguished teaching career. A longtime member of the Texas Classroom Teachers Association and Delta Kappa Gamma, Ann's influence extended well beyond her classroom walls.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Ann found great happiness in her personal life. On May 25, 1967, she married James Knight in Dallas, Texas, beginning a partnership marked by love and shared passions. Together, they enjoyed tending to their yard and garden, a pastime that brought Ann particular joy. She also cherished following the activities and events of her children and later her grandson, Keelan—with enthusiasm and pride—always a supportive presence in their lives. An avid reader and inquisitive mind, Ann nurtured her love of learning until the very end.
Her interests also included watching Texas Tech sports, especially basketball, and traveling, with a fondness for journeys through the Carolinas and on to Boston—places she carried close to her heart. Ann also found great joy in playing the piano, a pastime that brought her both peace and expression. Ann had a special affection for her beloved poodle, Patches, and fond memories of the Boston Terriers from her youth. She enjoyed plants such as ivy, although squirrels were a frequent annoyance to her.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Corbett and Lena Legg. She is lovingly survived by her husband of 58 years, James Knight, of Lubbock, Texas; her son, Matt Knight, and his wife Anna Jo of Abernathy, Texas; her daughter, Kathy Knight, of Lubbock, Texas; and her grandson, Keelan Knight, and his wife Avery of Temple, Texas. Her family’s devotion and her community’s respect stand as a testament to the meaningful life she led.
