Eva Payne

Services for Eva Cody Payne, 83, of Lubbock and formerly of Abernathy, TX, were held at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 4, 2008, in the Northside Baptist Church with Rev. Joel Perez, pastor, officiating. Burial followed services in the Strip- Pearce Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. Mrs. Payne died Tuesday, December 2, 2008, in Lubbock, TX. She was born September 23, 1925 in Alvord, TX. She married Paul Cody, January 2, 1944 in Crosbyton, TX, and he preceded her in death August 29, 1964. She married Gene Payne on July 2, 1969 in Muleshoe, TX, and he preceded her in death on March 13, 2001. She had moved to Abernathy from Muleshoe, TX in 1993 and was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Muleshoe. She was also preceded in death by 2 sons, Zoal Cody and Weldon Cody, a daughter, Gayle Rush, a brother, Wayne Dobson and 3 sisters, Darlene Vick, Frankie Dewbre and Jerri Fair. She is survived by a son, Archie Cody of Lubbock, TX, 3 daughters, Carloyn Springer and Clois Reynolds both of Lubbock, TX, a dn Norma Whisenhunt of Orange, TX, 2 sisters, Marie Stanton of New Castle, TX and Melba Hickman of Hereford, TX, 9 grandchildren, 14, great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
