Services for Elvira Stone Upchurch, 91, of Lubbock, TX, were held at 2:00 pm Sunday, January 16th, 2011, in the First Baptist Church, New Deal, TX. Graveside services followed at 4:30 pm in the Gaines County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. Ms. Upchurch died Thursday, January 13, 2011, in Petersburg, TX. She was born February 26, 1919 in Benjamin, TX to Early Richard Stone and Melissa Bradford Stone. She married Ealand Upchurch in 1937 and together they had 5 children, she moved to Lubbock from Earth in 1974. She was happiest on her Grandfathers ranch, (Bradford Ranch) in Pampa, TX. She was an avid Bingo player and was devoted to her family, she always put others ahead of herself. She enjoyed traveling the world. She was preceded by a son, Eldon Upchurch in 1997 and 8 siblings. She is survived by 4 children, Alvin Upchurch and his wife Martha and Peggy Overby and her husband Jim all of New Deal, TX, Judy Loudder of Earth, TX and Vivian Gay Jaquess of Lubbock, TX, 3 siblings, Mary Cozart of Lamesa, TX, Raymond Stone of Hobbs, NM and Harold Stone of Seminole, TX, 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
