Services for Eloise Shoemaker Barton,89, of Abernathy, TX, will be held at 11:00 am Monday, January 18, 2016, in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Janet Edwards officiating. Burial will follow services in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. The family will gather to receive friends at Abell Funeral Home from 2:00 pm until 3:30 pm, Sunday, January 17th. Mrs. Barton died Thursday, January 14, 2016, in Lubbock, TX. She was born April 2, 1926 to James Lloyd and Chloe Rothermel Shoemaker in Swenson, TX. She married Carl Barton on September 1, 1948 in O'Donnell, TX. She earned her BS in Accounting from Texas Tech University in 1947. She moved to Abernathy in 1958. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Lubbock Senior Bowling Association. She loved to sew, play the piano, play tennis and golf. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Chloe Shoemaker and 3 brothers, Lloyd, William and Robert Shoemaker. She is survived by her husband, Carl David Barton of Abernathy, 3 daughters, Carolyn Boggus of Lubbock, TX, Marilyn Schroeder and husband Rick of New Braunfels, TX and Kay Heep and husband Jim of Franklin, TN, 4 grandchildren Brandon Heep and wife Tiffany of Spring Hill, TN, Tyler Heep and wife Kris of Urbandale, IA, Justin Schroeder and Megan Schroeder both of Austin, TX, 3 great grandchildren, Wilson, Benjamin and Elise Heep and a sister, Virginia Waldrip of Lubbock, TX. The family suggests memorials be sent to the Abernathy Senior Citizens, 717 Ave. C, Abernathy, TX 79311.
