Cindy Gale Davis Hunt, beloved wife, mom, and Cici, passed away April 30, 2026 after a short but well fought cancer battle.
Born May 18, 1962 in Lubbock, Texas, Cynthia by birth, but don't dare call her that, was the oldest of three daughters to Jimmie and Gale (McDougal) Davis and spent the entirety of her nearly 64 years living in and serving Hale County and its residents.
A lifelong Abernathy Antelope, Cindy participated in just about every extra curricular that was available to her, including but not limited to: Abernathy Riding Club, shooting sports, stock shows, textiles, electric camps, and various other 4-H events. She played basketball, and cross country and was part of the state winning cross country team her junior year and silver medalists her senior year.
Cindy officially met David (class of '78) at her high school graduation party in May of 1980. They were married August 8, 1981 at Abernathy Methodist Church and spent their entire marriage devotedly serving the community. As active parents to Erin & Ethan, Cindy managed to make it to every class party, practice, game, and stock show adopting many of her children's classmates as her own along the way. She never admitted as much, but baseball was her favorite of all those activities. She coached t-ball, kept official books, ran concessions, made travel arrangements, and until last week had never missed a game that one of her kids was playing.
For roughly 30 years, Cindy worked as a book keeper, office manager, and inventory specialist at Abernathy CO-OP Gin, ACL, and CHS. She loved her job but loved the people she worked with best of all.
She loved a good road trip. Whether she was hauling a stock trailer across the state, riding shotgun to the mountains of New Mexico, pulling a band trailer at 50 mph all the way to Disney Land, or chauffeuring friends to Branson, she just liked to go.
As much as she enjoyed being gone, Abernathy was always home. Cindy loved the Lord her God with all her heart, soul, and strength, and lived life with a servant's heart, loving big and loving well. She preferred to be behind the scenes and didn't take issue with others taking credit for the outcome, as long as her part was done well and to the best of her ability. While she served and ministered to many adults, children held a soft place in her heart. She taught junior high Sunday school for many years after her kids were grown, worked several college chrysalis, provided youth meals, quietly handed out towels at baptisms, helped with vacation bible school for 35 years, hemmed hundreds of band uniforms, oversaw Angel Tree, served on the Ex Students Association, and the list goes on. She was always there, and always happy to be.
Along with numerous friends and extended family members, Cindy leaves behind her husband David of 44 years, daughter Erin Mueller and husband Sean of Abernathy, and son Ethan Hunt and wife Hayley of Amarillo. She also said "see ya later" to Leon, Abigale, and Madilyn Mueller - her dearly loved grandchildren. Cindy is also survived by her sisters Patsy Weidner and Joan Welsey and husband Scot both of Abernathy and two aunts: Barbara McDougal of Lubbock, Texas and Billie Dean of Halfway, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents Jimmie & Gale Davis and a once in a lifetime friend Celia Miller.
The family suggests donations to Abernathy United's Cindy Hunt Memorial Hospitality Fund - those donations will be earmarked to help with future funeral meals and incidentals. 704 Ave D Abernathy, TX 79311 or to the Abernathy Ex-students Association, PO Box 1, Abernathy, TX 79311
