Charles "Bud" Rhodes

Jul 24, 1950 — Jul 11, 2026

Wimberley, Texas

Charles Alan "Bud" Rhodes, 75, of Wimberley, Texas, passed away on July 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on July 24, 1950, Bud grew up in Abernathy, Texas, where he graduated from Abernathy High School. He later attended The University of Texas at Austin, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1972. A proud Longhorn throughout his life, Bud was an enthusiastic supporter of University of Texas athletics—especially Longhorn football when they were winning. Watching games with family became a cherished tradition.

Bud began his career farming alongside his family before transitioning into crop insurance, where he built a respected career that culminated with his retirement from Wells Fargo. For the past 24 years, he was proud to call Wimberley home and was a faithful member of Wimberley United Methodist Church.

One of the greatest blessings of Bud's life began at a hayride in 1964, where he met Sue Enger. From that day forward, they walked life's journey together, building a marriage founded on faith, devotion, laughter, and unconditional love that spanned 57 wonderful years.

Bud had a remarkable gift for bringing joy to those around him. His quick wit, dry sense of humor, and endless collection of stories could light up any room. Friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers alike were drawn to his warmth and left his company with a smile. To know Bud was truly to love him.

He was an excellent cook who appreciated great food, music, art, and travel. He enjoyed playing the guitar, exploring a wide variety of hobbies, and spending evenings under the stars with his telescope. Some of his happiest moments were spent making memories with his sons on family adventures and traveling to the mountains of northern New Mexico, a place that always held a special place in his heart.

Above all, Bud loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend whose love, laughter, and steady presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered. His granddaughters, Samantha and Charlotte, held an especially treasured place in his heart. He delighted in every opportunity to spend time with them, took immense pride in the remarkable young women they are becoming, and loved them beyond measure.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, William Irvan Rhodes and Iva Dell Rhodes; his beloved brother, Bill Rhodes, with whom he shared a lifelong close bond; and his sister-in-law, Christine Williston Rhodes.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 57 years, Sue Elaine Enger Rhodes; his son, Jeff Rhodes and wife Susan of St. Johnsbury, Vermont, and their daughters, Samantha and Charlotte; his son, Trey Rhodes of Austin, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Bud dearly.

A memorial service celebrating Bud's life will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Wimberley United Methodist Church in Wimberley, Texas.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project via its official donation page (https://www.Wounded Warrior Project/donate), to Wimberley United Methodist Church (WimberleyUMC.org), or to the charity of your choice.

Bud's legacy of faith, laughter, kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.

"Well done, good and faithful servant."
