Celeste Mendoza

Rosary for Celeste Mendoza, 53, of Abernathy, TX, will be recited at 7:00 pm Friday, November 15, 2024, in St. Isidore Catholic Church with Rev. Brian Wood, pastor, officiating. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 16, 2024 at the same church with the same officiant. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy. Celeste died Wednesday, November 13, 2024 in Lubbock, TX. Celeste Mendoza was born January 14, 1971 in Lubbock, TX to Bernabe and Francisca (Ramos) Mendoza. She was raised in Abernathy where she graduated High School in 1990. She worked many years at Vecchio's Restaurant, Abernathy, until they closed the business. She soon grew bored not working, and took a job at Dairy Queen. She was a faithful and devoted member of St. Isidore Catholic Church. She was a member of the Guadalupanas and the Cursillistas, volunteered for any of the other Church needs. Celeste loved going to the Abernathy football games, both Thursday and Friday nights to watch her many nephews play. She enjoyed bingo and loved a good game of cards, whether it was Uno, Phase 10, or any other card game. Celeste's family was her world. She is preceded in death by her parents Bernabe and Francisca Mendoza. Celeste is survived by 7 sisters, Teresa Flores, Minerva Ramos, Francisca Mendoza all of Lubbock, TX, Lupe Mendoza, Josie Sotelo, Lidia Garcia and Linda Luera and husband Terezo, Jr. all of Abernathy and a brother, Bernabe Mendoza, Jr. and wife Ermalinda of Lubbock.
