Services for Calvin "Skip" Lewis Thomas, Jr., 48, of New Deal, TX, were held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 12, 2006, in the Freedom Fellowship Church, Lubbock, TX, with David Peoples and Leonard Hall officiating. Burial followed in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home in Abernathy, TX. Mr. Thomas died in Lubbock, TX, January 9, 2006. He was born May 16, 1957 in Ft. Worth, TX. As a young boy, living in a military family they lived in West Virginia, Ft. Worth, TX, as well as other places. He lived in the Lubbock area for many years and married Sherry Lee Johnson on July 15, 1989 in Lubbock, TX. He had a love for animals and his horses. Skip had a beloved dog named Dixie that went everywhere Skip did. He was a long-time member of the American Quarter Horse Association and enjoyed trail rides around Quitaque, TX. He was preceded in death by his father, Calvin Lewis Thomas, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Sherry Lee Thomas of New Deal, TX, Mother, Ruth Wheeler and her husband Larry of Lubbock, TX, two daughters, Tiffany Perez and her husband G.T. of New Deal, TX, Heather Craig and her husband Jackie of New Deal, TX, 2 brothers, Franklin Joseph Thomas of New Deal, TX and Roy Clayborn Thomas of Lubbock, TX, a sister, Tina McKinney and her husband Brad of Lubbock, TX. He is also survived by his three precious grandchildren, Ashley and Caylie Craig, and Madison Perez. He is preceded by his father Calvin Lewis Thomas, Sr. Abell Funeral Home
