Betty Jo Riley

Services for Betty Jo Riley, 90, lifelong Abernathy resident, will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, December 22, 2021, in the Abernathy Church of Christ with Randall Carr officiating. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy. The family will gather at Abell Funeral Home to receive friends, Tuesday, December 21, 2021 from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm. Mrs. Riley died Friday, December 17, 2021 in Lubbock, TX. She was born February 25, 1931 in Hale County, TX to George A. and Alice (Bolin) Reagan. Betty graduated Valedictorian from Abernathy High School in 1948. She was voted Most Beautiful by her class. She then attended Texas Tech and married Bill Riley on January 1, 1950 in Lubbock. She was a member of the Abernathy Church of Christ. She loved to sew and cook. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Bill Riley, June 29, 2005. She is survived by 2 sons; Max Riley and wife Melody of Shawnee, OK and Clark Riley and wife Rhetta of Abernathy, 2 daughters, Leigh Harkey, Lynn Oswalt and husband Steve, all of Abernathy, 12 grandchildren, Micha Chisum, Matt Riley, Cliff Harkey, Wade Harkey, Andy Harkey, Jace Harkey, Blake Oswalt, Clint Oswalt, Stephanie Thompson, Cleve Riley, Josh Riley and Katie Riley, 26 great grandchildren and a sister, Marie Killingsworth of Amarillo, TX. The family suggests memorials be sent to the Children's Home of Lubbock, 4404 Idalou Rd, Lubbock, TX 79403 or to the Abernathy Church of Christ, 1512 Ave. M, Abernathy, TX 79311.
