Betty Johnson

Services for Betty May Johnson, 95, of Abernathy, Texas, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Abell Funeral Home in Abernathy, TX with Rev. Richard Harbison officiating. Private burial will follow. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy. Mrs. Johnson passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2025, in Olton, Texas. She was born on May 24, 1930, in Petersburg, Texas, to Everett and Sitdia (Brumley) McGaugh. Betty graduated from Abernathy High School in 1947 as the valedictorian of her class. On February 7, 1964, she married Iver L Johnson in Abernathy, where they made their lifelong home. Betty enjoyed painting and puzzles, especially word finds, and crosswords. Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Iver L Johnson, and her children Valerie Cross, Lane Trusler, Doyle Johnson, Bill Johnson, Michael Johnson and Victor Dees. She is survived by her son, Jerry Dees and wife Marci; nine grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
