Betty J. Betts, a beloved member of the Abernathy community, passed away on December 2, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 75. Born on May 30, 1950, in Abernathy to Hervey Lee and Lorene (Jackson) Betts, she lived a life rich with experiences and contributions that touched many hearts.
Betty's educational journey began at Abernathy High School, where her athletic prowess shone brightly on the basketball court. Her passion for the sport led her to Cisco Junior College, where she continued to pursue her love for basketball, embodying the spirit of teamwork and dedication.
For over twenty years, Betty made significant contributions to Texas Instruments in Lubbock, Texas. Her commitment and work ethic in her professional career were exemplary, earning her respect among colleagues and friends alike.
A long-time member of the Bethel Baptist Church, Betty immersed herself in her faith community, finding solace and strength among her fellow congregants. Her spiritual journey was a vital aspect of her life, reflecting her values and the enduring relationships she nurtured within the church.
In her leisure time, Betty enjoyed playing pool during her younger years, where she cherished the joy of competition and camaraderie with friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Hervey Betts and Larry Betts, sisters Fayrene Reese, Barbara Bridges and Cynathia Betts.
Betty will be deeply missed by her family, which includes her brothers, L.J. Betts and wife Felecisima "Tina" Betts of Lubbock, Artis Betts and wife Teresa of Pampa, Texas, and Willie Betts of Abernathy, TX. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary McGaha of Houston, Texas, and Carolyn Betts of Temple, Texas. Her legacy will continue through her many nieces and nephews, including Charles, Steve, Teresa, Jacky, Gloria, Roshanda, Jeremey, Monica, Kennie, Bennie, and LaCarla.
Betty's memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her impact on the lives she touched will endure through the stories shared and the love felt by family and friends alike.
A memorial service to honor Betty J. Betts will be held on December 13, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Bethel Baptist Church located at 101 1st Street, Abernathy, TX 79311, with the service concluding at 2:00 PM. All are invited to come together to celebrate her remarkable life.
