Ben F. "Spikey" Goebel

Graveside services for Ben Frank "Spikey" Goebel, 89 of Abernathy, TX, will be held at 10 am, Wednesday, August 25, 2021, in the Abernathy Cemetery with Rev. Joel Perez officiating. The family will gather to receive friends from 5:00 pm until 6:30 pm Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Abell Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. Mr. Goebel died Saturday, August 21, 2021 in Lubbock, TX. Ben was born March 9, 1932, to Felix and Dora (Varnhagen) Goebel near New Deal, TX. He graduated from New Deal High School in 1950, and remained in the Abernathy, and New Deal areas to operate the family farms. Ben married Rebecca Norwood, January 13, 1963 in Lubbock, TX. He retired to Abernathy in 1999. He was a member of the Abernathy First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Rodney Goebel. He is survived by his wife Rebecca of the home, a son Frank Goebel and wife Jennifer, a daughter, Lissa Guimbelleaux and husband Theophile, 2 granddaughters, Emily and Julia Goebel all of Lubbock, and 2 sisters, Felicia Elliott of Houston, TX and Marie Collins of El Paso, TX.
