Services for Augustine French, 86, of Hale Center, TX, were held at 11:00 am Saturday, July 27, 2002, in the Hale Center Church of Christ with Rodney Roberts, Involvement Minister at Sunset Church of Christ in Lubbock, officiating. Private burial was held in the Hale Center Cemetery under Freeman-Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center, TX. Mrs. French died Tuesday, July 23, 2002 in Lubbock, TX. She was born the sixth of eight children to Billy and Myrtle Lowe, on August 22, 1915 in Bluffdale, TX. She married Mac French on November 4, 1933 in Lipan, Hood County, TX. The family lived near Cotton Center, TX for several years and in 1947 moved to Hale Center. Mr. French preceded her in death on November 24, 1988, she continued to live in Hale Center until 1994 when she entered a nursing home in Lubbock, TX. Mrs. French worked in Hale Center at Struve's Department Store, Ruhl's Family Store, the school cafeteria and about 1955 she opened French's Beauty Shop which she continued to operate until 1990. She is survived by; 1 son, Kenneth French of Hurst, TX, 2 daughters, Minnie Lamb of Shallowater, TX and Leta Archer of Stephenville, TX. 1 sister, Bessie McClain of San Angelo, TX 7 grandchildren 10 great grandchildren 1 great great grandchild The family suggests memorials be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, 2200 West Seventh Street, Amarillo, TX 79106.
