Memorial services for Arlene Kerr, 83, of Lubbock, TX, were held at 2:00 pm Friday, April 2, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church, Abernathy, TX with Rev. Elizabeth Abraham officiating. Services were under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. Mrs. Kerr died at her home, Tuesday, March 30, 2010. She was born to Ernest M. and Edna Gladys (Myers) Jones on August 22, 1926 in Lubbock County, TX. She married Morris O. Kerr on April 22, 1944 in San Diego, CA. She was a longtime Abernathy resident prior to moving to Lubbock in 1992. She had been employed at First State Bank, Abernathy, secretary at Abernathy High School, Jones Bookkeeping Service, KLLL Radio and owned and operated Rattan Decor. She was a former Director of Yellowhouse Machinery Co. in Lubbock, and was a charter member of the Abernathy Junior Study Club. She loved music and sang alto with an Abernathy trio for many years and enjoyed playing bridge, belonging to several clubs. She was a longtime member of the Abernathy First United Methodist Church until moving to Lubbock when she moved her membership to St. Luke's United Methodist Church. She loved to travel, but her family was first and foremost to her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Kerr in 1997, and a brother, Lloyd Jones in 2002. Survivors include her son, Mike O. Kerr and his wife Julia, and a daughter, Kathy Hale all of Lubbock, TX, 3 grandchildren, Chris Hale and his wife Isadora of Tuscon, AZ, Dr. Max O. Kerr and his wife Jeannie of Roswell, NM and Lindsay Kerr of Boulder, CO, 1 great granddaughter, Summer Hale of Tuscon, AZ, 1 brother, E.M. Jones and wife Betty of Dimmitt, TX and a sister, Dorothy Gill of Canyon, TX. She is also survived by her beloved Shih Tzu, Missy.
