Almaruth Schaap

Graveside services for AlmaRuth Schaap, 93, of Lubbock, TX and formerly of of Abernathy, TX, will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, April 21, 2023, at Resthaven Cemetery, Lubbock, with Rev. Dave Menefee officiating. The family will gather to receive friends from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm, Friday, April 21st, at the First Church of the Nazarene, Abernathy. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy. Mrs. Schaap died Tuesday, April 18th, 2023, in Lubbock. She was born October 18, 1929 on the family farm in Hale County, TX, to Rufus Caldwell and Eula Estel (Rhodes) Patterson. She was a lifelong Abernathy area resident. AlmaRuth married Louis Schaap on March 9, 1985 in Abernathy. She graduated Bethany Nazarene College with a Bachelors Degree in Music, and later earned her Elementary Certification from Texas Tech University. She taught first, second and third grade at Abernathy Elementary for 32 years. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene for many years, where she played the piano and organ. She is preceded in death by 3 brothers, R. C., Melvin and Lewis Patterson and 2 sisters, Erma May Spruiell and Lorene Wright. Mrs. Schaap is survived by her husband Louis Schaap of Lubbock and formerly of Abernathy, 5 step sons Craig Schaap and wife, Nancy, of Owasso, OK, Steve Schaap and wife, Peggie, of Amarillo, TX, Jeff Schaap and wife, Jennifer, of Abernathy, Dan Schaap of Amarillo, and Rick Schaap and wife, Liz, of Plano, TX, one brother Vester Patterson and wife, Rose, of Arlington, TX, 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. The family suggests memorials be made to a favorite charity.
