Hugh Pettit

Services for Hugh L. Pettit, 89, of Abernathy, were held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 23, 2002, in the First Baptist Church, Abernathy, Tx., with Rev. Dennis Teeters and Rev. John Lowrie officiating. Masonic graveside services followed in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy. Mr. Pettit died Wednesday, February 20, 2002, at his home in Abernathy, Tx. He was born on October 20, 1912 in Gustine, Tx. and moved to Abernathy with his parents in 1915. He married Cecile Pharr on November 28, 1940 in Abernathy. She preceded him in death on December 28, 1996. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and had served on the Abernathy School Board. He was a member of the Abernathy First Baptist Church. Survivors; 1 son, Bob Pettit of Corinth, Tx. 1 daughter, Melinda Wheatley of Lubbock, Tx. 1 brother, Vernon Pettit of Gainesville, Tx. 1 sister, Tinie Williamson of Graham, Tx. 2 granddaughters, Melissa Pettit and Kay Lynn Pettit. 1 step grandson, Jordan Wheatley. 2 step granddaughters, Rebecca Wheatley and Renee Funderburg. The family suggests memorials be sent to Vista Care Hospice, 4418 Olton Rd., Plainview, Tx. 79072, or to the First Baptist Church, 411 - 7th Street, Abernathy, Tx. 79311.
